Curtail tread, Monkey’s tail, Newel Post.

The curtail tread with the Monkey’s tail set over a newel post is a very traditional setting, The newel post adds additional stability to the start of the handrail run, This is especially useful on a long straight flight flight when the last handrail tie may be a good distance awat from the feature tread.

A turned timber newel post or cast iron newel post may be used, these will normally compliment the style of spindle used.
