DUPLEX LS 130 EQ-Plus

The festool linear sander is an ideal tool for sanding the handrail profiles; due to its back and forth sanding motion.

Most portable sanders have an orbital rotation, that is ideal for quick removal of material, the problem with this is; orbital sanders leave circular scratches on the surface of the wood, this can be enhanced when stained and polished.

The linear sander can be used in direction of the grain, as if sanding by hand.

I have used these sanders for a number of years and highly recommend them for anyone sanding profiled detail.

Sanding pads.

A further advantages of the linear sander is: you can get profiled pads that can sand the shape of the handrail, even using the flat sanding pad you can get up alongside quirklines and sand into the corners.

A few of the most useful pads for handrail are;

40 and 50mm Ø Pads.

circular handrail being one of the hardest profiles to keep to the correct shape, this pad will remove a lot of the skill required to maintain that shape.

“V” groove pads.

These are ideal for getting into thumb grooves along the sides of the handrail, the “V” groove is the narrowest of this shaped sanding pad.

Flute pad.

The flute pad is similar to the “V” pad but slghtly wider, this works for handrail that have a large thumb bead or flute.
